This is a recent test shoot we did with photographer Anna Pogossova. We had lovely Phoebe on board, represented by Chadwicks, and she was a delight all day! The feel for this shoot was a sort of hyper-colour retro, using some amazing pieces from Estate of Mind, a fantastic boutique in Surry Hills carrying emerging Australian designers – see credits attached.

Things have been busy lately doing a bunch of new shoots for ourselves and a few others. Here are a few quick pics behind the scenes etc. The results of each will be unveiled over this month and next.

We shot model Emilia @ Chadwicks in this scultpural dress by Roxanna Zamani.

These Elliot Ward Fear wedges made her the tallest girl on earth! Emilia was such a darling to work with too.

Another shoot with photographer Anna Pogossova. Model Phoebe @ Chadwicks was old school cool with a touch (or more) of hypercolour.

Setting up stuff for a very elaborate submission shoot.

so. much. stuff.

On set doing a fashion film and lookbook shoot for new designer Kacey Devlin. Sammie @ Priscillas was suspended off the floor and spinning around – can’t wait to show the finished video!

There are lots of other new projects coming up! If you’re looking for some collaboration opportunities or would like to assist on a shoot, get in touch! New ideas are excellent and a good assistant is like gold. x

Monster Children is a magazine/gallery/website that plays between the lines of surfer and skate culture, fashion, photography, and just generally cool stuff. This year they held their first ever photography competition to a huge response from amateur and professional photographers alike. Out of the different categories: girls, travel, action, music and lifestyle emerged some fantastic images, and the student section was a definite standout.

And so we’re proud to say our amazing collaborator Mark Trzopek won Girls! This is his winning image above, of his girlfriend and muse Holly. Mark has been taking beautiful pictures both here and overseas, as well as working in graphic design. We’ve pulled a few more of his images from his website trippin-out, go have a wander over and be immersed in a world of weekend wanderings, dreamy Byron Bay and hazy polaroids. x

You can buy the Monster Children Photo Annual from next week, keep an eye out at the newsagent.

Our work has opened at Fraser Studios for the Body Works exhibition featuring the designs of UTS fashion students as well as our resulting images. Taking a selection of their garments and styling them up on models Merille and Liamay of Priscillas, photographer Maja Baska took the photos now on display until September 5th. Tomorrow is the last day to pop in! Maja also took these ones of the exhibition itself – see a few more on her website, along with lots of other pretty pictures.

Check out all the action on set from our shoot last week, we had models Merille and Liamay of Priscillas Models in an array of black dresses and leather pieces designed by UTS fashion students. Photographer Maja Baska had the girls jumping and whipping their hair, with their Dinosaur Designs jewellery bouncing anf flying! With Chereine Waddell on makeup and Lu Wang on hair, the girls were decked out with a touch of tribal, styled by Chiara Bianchino.

Video by Costa Vakas, who also made our new film Runaway.

The resulting photos will be on show from tomorrow in the Body Works exhibition being held at Fraser Studios in Ultimo. The opening is from 6-8pm and will be on until the 5th of September.

We just spent a fabulous and intense two days shooting two new editorials and fashion films with a great team down in lovely Berry. Day 1 had us venturing through an intriguing ornament and toy-filled house as the setting for our doll-like shoot with EMG model Angelique. Photographer Rodney Ye captured her frolicking with teddy bears and reading books to herself while filmmaker Costa Vakas took her performance to the next level, playing up her childlike actions. Makeup by Chereine Waddell transformed our model, along with a variety of wig stylings by James Nash. Absorb creative director Chiara Bianchino put together a bunch of outfits playing on the idea of dress ups, with garments from Elliot Ward-Fear, Christopher Esber, Emma Mulholland, Lovers and Collaborators, An Ode to Noone, Subfusco, Ginger and Smart, Gorman…the list goes on!

Then day 2 our knits and shirting story had us getting up at dawn to catch the sunrise, in the hilly fields with a pack of llamas! So very cute. We had a pretty but chilly morning driving around and stopping at locations as we saw them, shooting, and moving on. Stopping for breakfast halfway through recharged our ravenous bodies and we got some lovely shots of Angelique in Sabatini knits, Pol Design, Lulu Rouge booties and the amazing knitwear by recent graduate Jessica O’Connor, whose label Outpost will be debuting a capsule collection in the very near future. Keep an eye out, her stuff is so lovely!

Check a few behind the scenes pics snapped by James as we worked our way through Berry, from doll houses to farm paddocks!

Check out our latest video BODY BOUND, a collaboration with Chereine Waddell now live on the site.

ABSORB had the pleasure to work with lovely models Maddison and Tierney of Priscillas this week on our latest fashion film shoot with up and coming photographer Hyun Lee. We put together some great outfits, with pieces by Lovers and Collaborators (fantastic pleated trousers), Justine Davis and Suboo, thanks to Door121, mixed with some designs from Lisa Barbaro. Check out some quick snaps kindly taken by makeup artist Chereine Waddell. We were also loving the hair by Doran Lu. The beautiful photos and film will debut very soon..

We shot with the beautiful Matilda of Priscillas today for a little fashion film with photographer Justin Ridler. We styled outfits using pieces by Arabella Ramsay, Day Birger + Mikkelsen, Fleur Wood and Mezi, inspired by aimless wandering and nomad adventures. Chereine Waddell was on hair and makeup, perfectly mussing hair, and Emma Caldwell lended photo assisting expertise. Stay tuned for the fashion film!

We’ve just updated the site with some new work — shoots with recently graduated fashion designers Bronwyn O’Brien, Annika Pol and Jacquelyn Wellington, all of whom completed the fashion degree at UTS last year. Check out their work, the product of a very intense final year of study resulted in some amazing creations as well as the opportunity for us to make some great images. Go straight to the website for all the new stuff.

We had a fabulous day shooting Maddison, one of Priscilla’s new faces, in a bunch of DITA Eyewear and an array of amazing vintage outfits at Mint Condition – a great vintage clothing store in Sydney run by the lovely Wendy. She kindly allowed us free run of the store, so we went wild with 50s and 60s style dresses topped off with bunches of bangles, necklaces and kooky clip-ons and Dita spectacles. Hair by Bec Sun and makeup by Chereine Waddell completed our retro doll. Taking inspiration from the photographic stylings of  Miles Aldridge, the theme played on the idea of a rebel 50s shopgirl – portrayed to perfection by our own photographer Maja Baska. We could have stayed and played dress up all day long, then run home with armfuls of those fluffy colourful petticoats!

Mint Condition is a definite stop for some vintage heaven – located in Rozelle, Sydney, many of the pieces are genuine articles sourced from America, immaculately kept and infinitely desirable.

ABSORB has a never ending love affair with the imagery of fashion photographer Miles Aldridge, whose visual style and meticulous attention to detail is a constant source of inspiration. Having published editorials profusely within the pages of major magazines like Vogue Italia and Numero, it is clear that the Aldridge aesthetic has had a definitive influence on fashion photography. With a cinematic feel to many of his images, taken from his early love of Italian cinecitta, classic horror films and old school crime photography, there is always the suggestion of a story, of something happening beyond the flat image. The women he photographs are mysterious, or tormented, or on the verge of a breakdown – he revels in the idea of oddity within the highly stylised worlds he creates. Colour also plays an important role, with saturated hues a trademark of his work. Aldridge continues to produce amazingly rich fashion images, exploring the woman in many guises and in every colour of the rainbow. Pictured below is just one of his editorials for Vogue Italia, Morning Beauty, with model Siri Tollerod as a Lolita-esque cat lady..
