L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival roundup

ABSORB made the journey down to Melbourne this week to get the lowdown on LMFF, one of the prime events on the Australian fashion calender. While the No Home fashion + film event debuted the week before for the cultural program, the fashion shows and a bunch of other events kicked off the following week. We got to see some bright new talents at the Sportsgirl Graduate Fashion Showcase, witnessed the spectacular show that is an Alex Perry runway, got some brain food via the Fashion Business Seminar and then some eye candy at the Menswear Showcase. A busy few days of note-scribbling, while our photographer Maja Baska snapped all the catwalk gems.

THE BEST:

Best canapes – at Alex Perry. Soft shell crab, yessireee.

Best goodie bag – lovely KiKi K stuff in the Business Seminar bag.

Best pick-me-up – Loreal beauty bar at the Docklands runway – get hair, nails, lippie done between shows

Best show moment – the hot male dancers at the Menswear showcase busting some moves in their Timbalands during the interlude

Best street fashion – outside the Graduate showcase: Kramer-like quiffs on the boys are still out there.

Best celeb moment – meeting Jefferson Hack, co-founder of Dazed and Confused. Read about that and also his seminar talk here.

Best model moment – watching Helena Christensen do her snakelike stroll down the catwalk in the Menswear showcase

Best reality check – “It was nice to sit in the second row at the runway shows. That way I was able to see the clothes being displayed, whilst escaping the seemingly mandatory criteria of spending a whole event writing seven hundred twitter updates over the course of an hour.” – Raag, Helmet Magazine

Best Taxidermied Animal: Tiger with rabbit in its mouth at Melbourne Metal Collective launch.

We’ll be sharing all the LMFF goss over the next few blog posts: stay tuned.
